And boy did they!! What a beautiful night of beautiful dancing. After tonight, my picks for Top 4 are Jakob, Russell, Kathryn, and it is a toss up between Ashleigh and Ellenore (though I find myself leaning towards Ellenore). So, about tonight's performances . . .
Tyce Diorio really did a fabulous job with Ellenore and Jakob in his Fosse tribute! It was the perfect combination of dancers, music, and movement. Of course the quirkiness of Fosse's style suits Ellenore wonderfully, but I was beyond impressed with Jakob's attack on this piece. The smoothness of his arms on the walks and sharpness on the looks and poses were flawless! I am a total Fosse junkie, so I find myself being extra critical of pieces following in his style. Tyce, you never disappoint when it comes to this legendary man! Thank you for your genius!
What an amazing gift Desmond Richardson has to share with the world! Of course, I am slightly partial to him, being that he is an American Ballet Theatre alumi. His choreography is seamless and breath-taking, and proves to everyone that dance has a solid place in this world. Jakob and Kathryn were fabulously matched for this Contemporary piece. The passion and intensity displayed by these two dancers was nothing less than perfection. And then, to turn around and see Kathryn dance an insane NappyTabs Hip-Hop number opposite Russell (with the same level of intensity) only proves that she has truly earned her place in the Top 6!
Which leads me to Russell . . . I agree with Adam and Mary that Russell as grown the most out of any dancer in six seasons. He is a fabulous performer, fairly solid as a technician, and one of those who will only continue to grow as a person and dancer.
I was slightly disappointed in Ashleigh and Ryan's dance tonight. Though it was beautiful and flowing, I wanted more from the choreography and the performance. Travis Wall has created quite a reputation to live up to, and this was just under the radar for me. And from the dancers, yes, you danced beautifully, but I was left wanting more from your performance.
Looking forward to tomorrow night! Merde!
